The Xenophage Exotic Machine Gun remains one of the most reliable Heavy weapons in Destiny 2 due to its high explosive damage and precision-free firing style. Obtaining this formidable firearm requires players to undertake "The Journey" questline on the Moon, which involves environmental puzzles and dungeon encounters. Understanding each phase of the quest ensures a smoother path to adding this powerful weapon to your arsenal.

Starting The Journey in the Enduring Abyss

To begin the quest, players must navigate to the Enduring Abyss area located near Sorrow's Harbor on the Moon. Upon reaching the overlook facing the Lunar Pyramid, four Hive statues must be lit in a specific sequence to reveal a secret chest. Opening this chest grants the initial quest step, setting Guardians on their path to harness the Solar Machine Gun.

Lighting the Light Braziers and Sector Puzzles

The next phase requires carrying a Solar Orb through the Anchor of Light region to ignite six designated braziers under a tight timer. Once completed, players must visit the four K1 Lost Sectors on the Moon to solve 3x3 symbol grid puzzles located in the end rooms. Solving all four grid puzzles grants the required path fragments needed to progress into the deeper challenges.

Infiltrating the Pit of Heresy Dungeon

Players must then enter the Pit of Heresy dungeon to locate a hidden switch and a special elemental altar room. During the Pariah Ogre encounter, Guardians need to retrieve a light charge across a floating platform gap and use it to unlock the secret boss door. Inside, defeating Volmar the Tempted requires depositing elemental orbs into matching elemental plates to break the boss's shields.

Claiming Xenophage and Weapon Combat Performance

After defeating Volmar, players collect the Hive bug containing Omar Agah's soul and deliver it to Eris Morn in Sanctuary. Eris embeds the entity into the frame, completing the quest and handing over the Exotic Machine Gun. With its slow rate of fire and devastating Pyrotoxin Rounds, Xenophage excels at clearing tough targets and dealing heavy boss damage in various activities.
